📚 April TBR 📚 ⠀⠀ I’ve been struggling to find the balance between my desire to accomplish as much as possible and the need to relax. Is there a book or series you really hated by an author that you really love? ⠀⠀ The Reckoners was a truly painful reading experience. I know authors have weak books or whatever, but this was uncharacteristically bad writing from Sanderson. ⠀⠀ Elle at @ebnovels pointed out in a recent video that the plot for Steelheart is almost identical to the plot of The Final Empire (Mistborn). Now I’m wondering if this series was a different exploration of the same ideas... but it ended up being way worse. ⠀⠀ I won’t totally hate on these books, because I know a lot of people like them. They do have some good qualities. One to Watch is a perfect read for those of us who are tired of only seeing thin, traditionally attractive women on reality tv. This story is about the first plus sized woman to star in a reality show in which men will be competing for her love (read: The Bachelorette). ⠀⠀ This book also fulfills the #mjreads2020 challenge for March: read a book someone recommended to you. Thanks to @secondhandsavvy_ for the rec! ⠀⠀ The tentative pub date for this book is July 7, 2020, which would have been just after the Bachelorette season finale. I’m having the hardest time with this book. It’s weirdly high brow and literary in a way that is off putting. Typically when I read celebrity/comedian memoirs, I’m expecting something insightful and humorous. ⠀⠀ This is slog of a read, almost to the point of being laborious. I’m going to do my best to power through, because it’s very possible my opinion will change.
