Books I read:
- The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon – This was a bit of a slow read for me, but I thought the plot was interesting enough. I don’t usually love the “story-within-a-story” structure, but in this case, the author tied it all together really well.
- Snake and Bacon’s Cartoon Cabaret by Michael Kupperman – This one as another Jolabokaflod book from the exchange I participated in last year. It’s a series of comic strips, which normally isn’t my thing, but these were pretty enjoyable.
Books purchased:
Only two! That’s good, right? Only two. On a day trip to Asheville I stopped in at Firestorm (highly recommend, btw) and picked up Severance by Ling Ma and Something Bright, Then Holes by Maggie Nelson.
I also acquired some more books in this year’s (well, 2019) Jolabokaflod exchange, but I don’t count those toward my TBR since they won’t be on my shelves permanently.

In progress:
I’m still finishing up Parable of the Sower on audiobook, but I’ve also started My Dark Vanessa. It comes out soon, and I wanted to get a review up by release date. I’m really enjoying it so far, even though it’s uncomfortable and disturbing.
What’s next:
This is one of the few times that I don’t know exactly what I’m going to read next. I have a lot of good options, but nothing is really speaking to me. Maybe I’ll turn to some of the ARCs I’ve requested and still haven’t read…another bad bookish habit!
