Books I read:

  • My Dark Vanessa by Kate Elizabeth Russell – You can read my full review here, but the short version is that I loved this book and thought it was perfectly written. It’s not often that I finish a book and think that the author achieved their goal perfectly without me wanting to change anything. Highly recommend!
A snapshot of the reading stats from My Dark Vanessa. Since it hasn’t been published yet, there’s no official cover. Hopefully they stick with the one on the ARC, because it’s great (see above).

Books purchased:

Big. Fat. Zero. I’m the best.

In progress:

I’m still working on the audiobook for Parable of the Sower. It’s hard for me to get back to an audiobook if there’s other things I want to listen to, like podcasts. I’ll finish it eventually. I also started In the Dream House by Carmen Maria Machado, which I’m loving. It’s a memoir about an abusive relationship between two lesbians, which isn’t something that has really been addressed in literature at this point. Machado’s writing is decadent, and the memoir is formatted as a series of very short vignettes and written in second person. It’s weird but it works. Additionally, I started reading Magic for Liars by Sarah Gailey, which I may or may not continue. So far, it feels like a five-star storyline with three-star writing style.

What’s next:

Finishing what I’ve started…hopefully. There’s no telling! I’m not going to make a lot of reading plans for this week because I know I’m going to be pretty busy.

TBR count: 75

Thus continues the ongoing saga of Goodreads and myself being incapable of tracking books. So I re-downloaded the BookBuddy app for keeping track of my book collection. It’s easy to scan in your books and separate them into categories, AND you can search your collection to see what you own. This will come in handy when I’m at the bookstore, because I have purchased duplicate copies of books on accident an embarrassing number of times. Also, there’s a handy little feature that separates books into “finished,” “being read,” and “unread.” After scanning all of the books on my TBR shelves, I came up with 75 unread books, despite my TBR shelf on Goodreads displaying 72 books. It’s whatever, guys. I’m not mad. It’s whatever.
