Books I read:

  • Magic for Liars by Sarah Gailey ⭐⭐⭐ – I wrote a review for this on Goodreads if you want to see some more of my thoughts, but overall I liked this book. I thought it had some weak spots (particularly the writing style), but I loved the world the author created and the plot of the story enough to overlook the other issues I had with this book. This book probably would have gotten a higher star rating from me, except that I wasn’t really satisfied with the ending.

  • Something Bright, Then Holes by Maggie Nelson ⭐⭐⭐⭐ – I’ve been wanting to read more poetry, and I had picked up this collection the last time I was in Asheville. The beginning of this book was a little hard for me to get into. When I’m reading poetry, I like to be able form mental images. A lot of times poetry isn’t about telling a story narratively, but rather showing the reader a picture (or series of) pictures. I had trouble with that for the first section of this collection. It might be because I wasn’t focusing well enough or that I was getting used to Nelson’s writing style. Who knows! After about the midway point, I started to really get into this book and got a lot more out of it.
This is Baldr, who was waiting patiently for me to leave my coffee so that he could either drink it or knock it over.

Books purchased:

  • Blood of Elves by Andrzej Sapkowski
  • Sword of Destiny by Andrzej Sapkowski

I’ve been waiting for the Witcher series to be back in stock, because everyone had sold out after the success of the Netflix show. I stopped in the bookstore on a whim (during tornado warnings and flooding from the 8 inches of rain we got that day, no less) and found that they had indeed restocked. The publisher actually reprinted this series, so now they all have the annoying printed sticker advertising the tv show. I don’t mind actual stickers, because I can take those off. If they were going to reprint these with the Netflix sticker, I would have rather they just made them all the hardcover Netflix redesign like they did for The Last Wish.

Love this cover!

In progress:

I’m reading Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson and Sword of Destiny by Andrzej Sapkowski.

Y’all know how I mentioned tornadoes and floods earlier this week? It also snowed. We don’t know what is happening.

What’s next:

I would love to finish up the two books I have in progress this week, and I also want to read Foul is Fair soon. I received the ARC a while back, but I waited too long to read it and now it’s actually published. Story of my life!

For some reason I thought using a red and a green bath bomb would make a pretty picture. I went to art school, guys.

TBR count: 76

+2 and -1! Not bad.
