I’m having the hardest time with this book. It’s weirdly high brow and literary in a way that is off putting. Typically when I read celebrity/comedian memoirs, I’m expecting something insightful and humorous. ⠀⠀ This is slog of a read, almost to the point of being laborious. I’m going to do my best to power through, because it’s very possible my opinion will change. This seems appropriate. ⠀⠀ I’ve been trying to convince myself that self isolation and not being able to work is a great time to read my TBR or work on other projects. I always complain about not having time for things, but now that I have all the time in the world, I absolutely hate it. ⠀⠀ I’m restless, anxious, distracted, and frustrated. Don’t mind me, I’m just over here slowly losing my mind. ⠀⠀ Now is a great time for some escapist reads, which is exactly what Ninth House offers. It’s spooky, funny, suspenseful, and creative... and I’m loving it. I’m only about halfway through, but I’m so glad this is going to be a series. ⠀⠀ How is everyone else coping with isolation and the sense of impending doom? I think my cats would be pretty happy if we were quarantined at home for the next two weeks. ⠀⠀ I’m very grateful that I no longer work with the public for a number of reasons, but the one thing I have missed is doing Reader’s Advisory. I used to work the circulation desk at the library, and I tried to keep up with reading trends, award winners, and such. ⠀⠀ Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead made the shortlist for the Man Booker Prize, and the author Olga Tokarczuk received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2019. Spring is springing! Mostly that just means the weeds in my yard are growing faster than the grass is. ⠀⠀ The next two books I want to read are Severance and Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead, which is peeking out from the bottom.
